MW4 Is Live
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2, bringing multiplayer, 12 launch maps, the two Prestige paths and the DMZ extraction mode. Digital pre-order owners had campaign access from October 16.
A Steam Score Nobody Expected
The campaign early access holds roughly 90 to 92 percent Very Positive on Steam from over 3,400 reviews. That is the best Steam score for any Call of Duty in more than a decade. Black Ops III previously held the high mark near 84 percent, while Black Ops 7 sits around 37 to 39 percent Mostly Negative. Players describe the campaign as focused, brutal and emotional, a conclusion to the rebooted Modern Warfare story.
The Caveat
Those reviews cover only the campaign. Multiplayer and DMZ shape a Call of Duty's long-term reputation, and the beta drew heavy criticism over traversal and time-to-kill. Expect the score to move now that the full game is live.
Player Numbers
Notebookcheck reported the early-access Steam player peak exceeded Black Ops 7's launch peak, with over 108,000 players on the first day of early access.
What This Means for Indian Gamers
If you mainly play for story, the campaign reception makes MW4 an easy pick. If you buy CoD for multiplayer, wait a few days for reviews on the full game before spending, especially with GTA 6 and its preload only weeks away and storage and money getting tight. Check your regional price on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store or Steam first.
My Take
A series that has been getting beaten up on Steam for years finally has a campaign people love. Whether multiplayer matches it decides if this is a true comeback or just a strong first week. Either way, it is the last big shooter standing before GTA 6 takes over November.
