GTA 6 Scalpers Are Listing Pre-Orders on eBay for $120-$138 — For a Fully Unlimited Digital Game. Do Not Buy From Them.

The Most Pointless Scalp in Gaming History

Within hours of GTA 6 pre-orders going live on June 25, scalpers had flooded eBay with listings for GTA 6 Standard Edition at prices between $120 and $138 — up to $58 above the official $79.99 retail price. Confirmed sold listings show that some buyers actually paid these inflated prices. This is not just financially harmful — it is genuinely baffling, because GTA 6 is a digital product with literally unlimited supply.

Why This Makes No Sense Whatsoever

Console scalping usually works because physical hardware or limited physical stock can genuinely run out. A PS5 has a finite number of units manufactured. A physical disc has a finite print run. But GTA 6 is predominantly a digital product — a code delivered through the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store. There is no server that runs out of GTA 6. There is no warehouse that stocks out. The PlayStation Store can process an unlimited number of pre-orders simultaneously at $79.99 for as long as Rockstar keeps the game available. Paying $120 on eBay for something freely available at $79.99 directly from Sony is not an investment — it is a loss.

What Scalpers Are Actually Selling

Scalpers are selling one of two things. Either they are listing a pre-order they placed themselves at $79.99, hoping to transfer the code to the buyer — which may violate the platform's terms of service. Or they are listing the physical code-in-a-box version from retailers like Amazon, which contains only a download code identical to the digital purchase. In neither case is the buyer getting anything they could not purchase directly from official sources right now at the standard price.

The Real Shortage Warning — Consoles, Not Games

There is a genuine supply concern associated with GTA 6, but it is the consoles themselves — not the game. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S console supply is under real pressure from a RAM shortage and holiday demand surge, as we have reported previously. If you do not yet own a current-gen console, that is where supply concern is justified and action is warranted. The game itself will be available at $79.99 in unlimited quantities from official storefronts indefinitely.

What This Means for Indian GTA Fans

Indian gamers should pre-order GTA 6 directly and only from the PlayStation Store India, Xbox Store India, Amazon India, or Flipkart. The standard price is ₹5,999 for Standard Edition and ₹7,499 for Ultimate Edition. Any listing on OLX, eBay India, or social media groups offering GTA 6 pre-orders at higher prices is either a scam or a pointless overpayment. Share this with your gaming WhatsApp groups — there will be people who almost fall for it. The only shortage that could affect you is console hardware, not the game itself.

My Take

GTA 6 scalpers on eBay are not predators — they are comedians. The audacity of listing an unlimited digital product at a 70% markup and finding buyers who pay it says more about the insane level of GTA 6 hype than it does about any real supply constraint. Do not be that buyer. Go directly to the PlayStation Store, spend ₹5,999, and save the rest of your money for the PS5 you might actually need to buy before November 19.
