The Leak That Answered a Major Question
European retail giant MediaMarkt published a GTA 6 pre-order FAQ on its Polish website ahead of the official June 25 launch, and buried inside it was a detail fans have been desperate for — GTA 6 will offer two distinct graphics modes on current-gen consoles. The translated text reads: "Next-generation consoles offer two graphics modes to choose from — Performance and Quality." The listing also confirmed DualSense haptic feedback support on PS5 and lightning-fast SSD loading screens.
Performance vs Quality — What Each Mode Means
In virtually every modern AAA console game, Performance Mode prioritizes frame rate over visual fidelity while Quality Mode does the opposite. For GTA 6 specifically, Quality Mode almost certainly targets 30 FPS with maximum ray-traced global illumination, native or near-native 4K resolution, and the cinematic look fans have seen in both trailers. Performance Mode would lower some visual settings to free up processing power — the question is whether that trade-off is enough to actually hit 60 FPS on base PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware.
The Big Question — Will 60 FPS Actually Happen?
This is where experts are divided. Digital Foundry, the most respected console performance analysis outlet in the world, has analyzed both GTA 6 trailers and concluded that 60 FPS on base PS5 is unlikely given the density of ray-traced lighting and NPC simulation visible in the footage. However, leaker DetectiveSeeds — who correctly called the Oblivion Remaster and Doom: The Dark Ages — claims GTA 6 is already hitting 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro across multiple graphical settings, with Sony engineers actively assisting with optimization. Red Dead Redemption 2 still runs at 30 FPS on PS5 to this day, which is fuelling legitimate concern.
PS5 Pro Is the Wild Card
The PS5 Pro, with its significantly more powerful GPU at 16.7 TFLOPS compared to the standard PS5's 10.3 TFLOPS, is the most likely candidate for a true 60 FPS mode. Some analysts believe Rockstar may offer a third "Balanced" mode on PS5 Pro targeting 40 FPS at higher refresh rates — a middle ground that has become popular across multiple PS5 Pro enhanced titles. The standard PS5 and Xbox Series X will likely be limited to a choice between 30 FPS Quality or a Performance mode that may target 60 FPS but could drop frames in dense city areas.
What This Means for Indian GTA Fans
For Indian players on a standard PS5, the honest advice is to go in with realistic expectations. Quality Mode at 30 FPS with full ray tracing will look stunning and is the safe choice for the single-player story experience. If you own a PS5 Pro, you are in the best possible position for GTA 6 on console. Indian players on Xbox Series X should see near-identical performance to the base PS5. More official details on frame rates and resolution targets are expected to come alongside Trailer 3 or in the weeks leading up to the November 19 launch.
My Take
I genuinely hope Rockstar delivers 60 FPS in Performance Mode on base PS5 — but I am not betting on it. GTA 6 is the most visually ambitious open-world game ever built, and the history of Rockstar's console releases suggests they will prioritize image quality over frame rate when forced to choose. If you want 60 FPS GTA 6 without compromise, the PC version in 2027 or 2028 is probably your best bet. For now, any mode that gets us into Vice City on November 19 is good enough for me.
